In partnership with PEP, the Global Education Analytics Institute (GEAI) welcomes young African academics who are driven to work on educational improvement and might benefit from additional assistance to apply for the Africa Fellows in Education Program.
The program provides fellows with the opportunity to engage in a two-year research and policy development fellowship that exposes them to relevant research and analytical experiences as well as worldwide networks of academics and policy advisers. The Yidan Prize supports the Global Education Analytics Institute (GEAI) and the Africa Fellows in Education Program (AFE).
The Award’s Worth
A research (cash) award of $35,000 is included in the funding. Other expenses, up to a maximum of $25K, will be covered directly by the Program for mentorship, study visits, conference travel, and in-country workshops to share research findings and training.
Eligibility
Candidates must:
- You must be a Sub-Saharan African national.
- Possess an MA or Ph.D. in Economics, education policy, social/public policy, development studies, or international development, preferably with a strong emphasis on education. While a Ph.D. is not required, GEAI encourages recent Ph.D. graduates who can benefit from mentorship and additional training in order to become strong researchers.
- Be skilled in quantitative data analysis, with a solid understanding of data analysis software such as R and Stata.
- You must be under the age of 35.
- Years of experience in education policy research and analysis;
- Have or intend to have a connection with a research or higher education institution in a Sub-Saharan African nation;
- Female applicants who meet the qualifications are highly encouraged to apply.
Documents Needed for the Application
GEAI manages the Africa Fellows application process in partnership with PEP. The applications will be evaluated using a variety of criteria, including prior preparation and essay quality (see below). Applicants’ expressions of interest should contain the following information:
- A two-page declaration of interest, followed by a two-page essay. The candidate must think about and write about a specific education problem in their own country, as well as how such a problem may be scientifically evaluated using quantitative methodologies, in this essay.
- The essay must be written entirely in English.
A complete and up-to-date CV, as well as contact information for at least two (2) referees.
Application Method
The following are the procedures to follow to submitting your application:
- STEP 1: Create an account on the PEP website and fill out all of the relevant information. Within 24 hours, your profile will be activated.??Your username is the email address you used to sign up.
- STEP 2: Log in to your PEP account. After you’ve activated your profile, you can access your PEP account by clicking the Login button.
- STEP 3: Finish your “profile” by clicking on your name (located in the upper right corner of your PEP account page).
- STEP 4: Select “Submit a proposal” from the menu under “My workspace” (upper left corner).
Return to your PEP account and click on “My Projects” (under “My workspace”) after done to ensure that the submission was successful. Select the project and navigate to “Documents” to locate, replace, or update your document.
