Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships for international students 2024

These scholarships are offered by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic to support the mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists for scholarship stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must have a valid acceptance letter from a public, private or state higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia for an academic mobility to study, conduct research or artistic stay in Slovakia.
  • You must have a sufficient level of proficiency in the language of instruction or communication at the host institution in Slovakia.
  • You must not be a holder of another scholarship in Slovakia at the same time.

The eligibility criteria may vary depending on the category of applicants. There are four categories of applicants:

  • University students who are studying at universities outside Slovakia and who will be on a study stay in Slovakia during their higher education. The duration of the scholarship stay is 1 to 2 full semesters (4 to 10 months) or 1 to 3 full trimesters (3 to 10 months).
  • PhD students who are studying or conducting research outside Slovakia and who are accepted by a higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia for an academic mobility to study or conduct research in Slovakia. The duration of the scholarship stay is 1 to 10 months.
  • University teachers, researchers and artists who are invited by an institution in Slovakia that has a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development for a teaching, research or artistic stay in Slovakia. The duration of the scholarship stay is 1 to 10 months.
  • International university teachers, researchers and artists who are working at foreign universities or research institutions and who are invited by an institution in Slovakia that has a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development for a teaching, research or artistic stay in Slovakia. The duration of the scholarship stay is 3 to 10 months.

Financial Coverage

The Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships cover the following expenses for the scholarship holders:

  • A monthly stipend that varies depending on the category of applicants. The stipend ranges from 400 € to 1,050 € per month.
  • A travel allowance that covers the costs of travel to and from Slovakia. The travel allowance is up to 250 € for applicants from Slovakia and up to 500 € for international applicants.
  • A health insurance allowance that covers the costs of medical examination and health insurance in Slovakia. The health insurance allowance is up to 250 €.

The scholarship does not cover the costs of accommodation, visa fees, tuition fees or other expenses related to the scholarship stay.
