The African Leadership Academy (ALA) strives to recruit the most exceptional young leaders between the ages of 15 and 18 from across Africa and around the world. Only the most enthusiastic and talented young leaders will be able to change the course of our continent’s future. Are you among them?
We’re on a hunt for talented young individuals. Our mission is to find the sharpest brains with the capacity to change the course of our continent’s destiny.
We are not just looking for students who thrive academically; we are also looking for young people who have the bravery, ambition, and passion to have a good influence on the world around them via new ideas and forward-thinking activities.

Requirements
An ideal applicant for the African Leadership Academy possesses:
- Academic achievement, leadership potential, and a strong sense of purpose.
- Is normally between the ages of 15 and 18, and has either completed or is about to graduate high school.
- Admission to ALA is both open and competitive. Many people believe that the minimum grade requirements in a national or international test are the most essential component in an admissions decision, but this is simply one of numerous variables that our admissions staff considers. We do not have set minimum grades; instead, we analyze academic reports from the final two years of high school to better understand a candidate’s academic trajectory and assess their readiness to succeed in a difficult setting like ALA.
- Along with the brief essays in the application, we examine leadership activities, extracurricular activities, volunteerism, projects begun, and other such activities.
- If a student has regularly performed well at their prior school (even if they were not at the top of their class), they have a good probability of being admitted to ALA.
- The application form asks students to consider how they want to be changemakers in the future and what they have already done to get there. We will need two full years of academic term results, as well as a completed application form.
- Every year, from June to December, applications are accepted. ALA has an equal admissions opportunity policy, with males receiving 50% of available spots and girls receiving 50%.
Timeline for submitting an application:
- The date for Early Decision is October 15, 2023.
- The deadline for Regular Decisions is January 15, 2024.
- JANUARY 2024: The Early Decision results for the 2024 entrance class are revealed.
- APRIL 2024: The Regular Decision results for the 2024 entrance class are revealed.
